I recently went down to Witton Park to watch the Riding Club's monthly show.
In the park at the same time there was a football tournament.
As I walked past I was appalled to hear the comments from the sidelines from parents and supporters directed at the young boys playing.
There was little encouragement and it consisted mostly of derogatory comments directed towards the players and the way they were playing.
Contrast this to the quiet calm atmosphere at the Riding Club.
No shouting, no swearing, no insulting the opposition, everything done politely and with regard to the rules.
One lady who had strolled over from the football commented "it's so pleasant to be able to stand and watch and listen to people make polite comments and be knowledgeable about their subject.
"Over there everyone thinks they're Sven Goran Eriksson."
Maybe the footballing supporters might like to take a stroll over to the Riding Club and watch how things are done in the name of good sportsmanship.
