STANDING waiting for a long time and looking forward to seeing the Queen on May 25, I took up my position in Church Street.

I was with other people behind a barrier right in front of the canopy where the Queen would stand to unveil a plaque.

I was talking with other people in the crowd about what a good view we had.

We saw the Queen arrive and take up her position under the canopy and then what happened?

Some very rude and ill-mannered people, who seemed to be invited guests and others, competed with the council people who had been allowed to stand on the other side of our barrier and already had a first-class view. Suddenly they all stepped forward and in so doing blocked our view, causing us to miss the unveiling ceremony and stopping us from taking photos.

They were so interested in taking their own photographs that they thought of nobody but themselves.

One elderly lady had come from Clayton. A lot of people around me were complaining about these rude people.

So to the council I say next time we have something like this in Blackburn, please make sure your guests don't spoil the day for other people.
