IT WOULD be fair to assume numerous readers may have experienced problems with their energy supply, especially when it comes to invoicing from certain companies.

It makes you wonder whether the deregulations of the past were of any benefit to consumers.

The last six years has seen no end of hassle from one such supplier and the problem is persistent and blatant.

The vulnerable and those failing to check bills could be paying excessive amounts to these companies.

I changed my gas supplier a couple of years back and now enjoy competitive prices paid by monthly direct debit with confidence.

With the electricity supplier the matter is always at loggerheads and far from straightforward. Whether it is because of the unique economy meter set by the now defunct Norweb, other companies seem not to have the scope to supply on those tariffs and the supply remains with the company trading under a new name.

There is a constant struggle in having the invoices corrected and then again no attention is paid to the details of the complaint. In fact the issues are put on a merry-go-round and the invoices are NEVER corrected with what appears to be other deliberate confusions brought into play. Their computer system is continually blamed for the blunders.

A complaint to Energywatch resolved my problems instantly and it was notable how every meter reading submitted with the dates was reproduced on one bill. For the agitation caused a discount was agreed on the amount payable.

It is high time something was implemented to bring these companies in line with the quality of service expected.
