TO ALL the residents of Meadowhead Ward who voted Labour in the May elections for Elaine and myself, we send you our thanks, and to all the volunteers who worked hard for weeks knocking on doors, delivering leaflets and sitting on the polling stations. You were fantastic and thanks a lot.

I am sorry that I am late in offering my thanks, but after the election I went on holiday to the tranquil setting of Ireland to be with my wife and family.

And when I returned, what do I read in the past editions of the LT "Coalition Backs Academy Plan." I thought those clowns from Darwen won the election on a campaign against the academy being built on Redearth Road, and now because of all the protest these Darreners have caused it is going to cost £15 million more.

What do the Blackburn ratepayers think of this? And they say that they did not know the full picture even after all the advice they were given.

Some good, hard-working councillors lost their seats in Darwen over this subject and Darwen residents should feel ashamed of themselves.

Next we await the promise to all residents in bringing back the weekly bin collection and at what cost. It had better happen in the Meadowhead wards or heads will fall next time.

RON O'KEEFE, East park Road, Blackburn.
