I WAS saddened by Mary O'Rourke's letter (LT January 31), not about her opinion as to whether there should be a Gay Pride March in Hyndburn or not, but about her offensive comments about gay people in general.
She suggests they should move to Manchester or Blackpool to indulge themselves'.
Those comments have a deeper poignancy at this time, when the world is remembering the horrors and degradation of the Holocaust.
Hitler sent 6 million Jewish people from the ghettos to the gas chambers- along with gypsies and gay people!
It wasn't too long ago, Mary O'Rourke, that anyone with a surname like O'Rourke would have been considered socially unacceptable by many in this country, because they were Irish, Catholic and poor.
Dangerous and insulting thinking Mary O'Rourke.
