WHEN is Blackburn with Darwen Council going to do something about the dangerous accident waiting to happen that is the pedestrian system in and around Blackburn town centre, Church Street, King William Street, Northgate/Blakey Moor and the Boulevard.

Let's go through them one by one. First, the junction of Darwen Street and Church Street, probably one of the most dangerous areas of the town, with cars pulling off Darwen Street to seek free parking by the Cathedral, trucks and lorries exiting the delivery basement of the Mall, all mixing with people on foot - some naively believing they are in a safe pedestrian area.

Second, King William Street. I personally stood outside the Nationwide Building Society the other day for about 10 minutes while my wife was inside. In that time five cars and a lunatic on a push bike doing about 30 mph passed me, this on a street I was sure was pedestrians only.

Third, Northgate/Blakey Moor. I have noted for quite a while now that the area around the Gladstone statue is used as some kind of mini roundabout and pickup-drop off point for taxis and the like.

Is the area around the statue pavement or is it road?

The same applies in front of the Star and Garter on the Boulevard with the bus lane on your outside and a taxi rank on your inside.
