COMEDIAN Jim Bowen has told of how he is learning to walk again after two strokes.

The Bullseye host has been released from hospital after six weeks of treatment and is undergoing treatment after being left with restricted use of the left side of his body.

Jim, who was brought up in Padiham and went to school in Accrington, said: “It was a total, complete shock.

"Nothing prepares you for it.

“It reminds you to take nothing for granted.”

The 73-year-old Blackburn Rovers fan, who lives in Melling near Carnforth, was taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary in February to be treated for a stroke.

He suffered a second attack shortly afterwards.

He praised the hospital staff and said he had been overwhelmed by support during his recovery.

He said: “I have been extremely impressed with the treatment I was given, especially since leaving hospital.

"We had also had lots of nice cards and phone calls - that was quite surprising, I didn’t realise how many people knew us!

“I am walking quite well, under supervision. Certainly not unaided at the moment.

“It looks as though we are getting back to normality, it’s just a question of time.

“We won’t be going no any cruises in the near future, but I’m hoping to do the Grand Theatre in Blackpool over the summer.”

He added: “I have been following the football, though.

"It was good to see Blackburn get a win against Bolton, and I am also pleased about Accrington Stanley, my original team, being in the play-offs.”
