TECHNOLOGY to reduce traffic congestion which has been tested in Greater Manchester is to be extended across the country, Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly has announced.
Police and highways authorities can use the satellite positioning technology to help get traffic moving more quickly after serious crashes.
It has been known to reduce delays by an hour. Emergency services can create a map of the accident scene by using the kit and divert traffic more effectively.
The Highways Agency has invested £2.5million in buying the equipment and is rolling it out to ensure that all the police forces in England can benefit from it.
Bolton West MP Ms Kelly said: "The Government is determined to find every opportunity to tackle congestion."
