THE sunshine that bathed Bolton over the weekend is set to continue.

Families headed to parks and beauty spots as temperatures reached double figures and Britain enjoyed its warmest day of the year so far on Saturday.

The blue skies continued yesterday and forecasters say there should be more sunshine until Thursday, when it will become overcast.

The clear skies will be accompanied by temperatures of nine or 10C, although they could bring with them cold nights with lows of -3C predicted tomorrow.

Forecaster Brendan Jones, of Press Association weather division MeteoGroup, described the temperatures as "very unusual", with southern parts of the country hitting 17C on Saturday.

He said: "We are enjoying some high pressure at the moment which is bringing with it some very settled weather.

"But it is very unusual for it to be quite this warm. Usually, if it is so clear and sunny at this time of year, it will be chilly."

He said it should stay dry until the weekend.
