A MUM'S home-made Dalek has proved to be out-of-this world for her Doctor Who-mad son!
Proud eight-year-old David Green was inundated with praise when his "monster" creation made a public appearance on Halloween.
The costume, an imaginative combination of cardboard boxes and other material, fits over the youngster's head to allow him to "invade" local streets. Mum Shani (35), of Whitefield Road, Bury, drew on her own artistic expertise to fulfil David's wish: "At the beginning of October, my son informed me he would really like a Dalek costume for Halloween. It was a good job that I love a challenge. Over the month, I collected large-sized cardboard boxes and such things as sink plungers.
"It took me three days to put it all together and then I sprayed it all black," she said. "It might not be perfect, but David think it's great. He's walked about the streets wearing it. But he does have trouble getting up the kerbs, just like the original Daleks."
Shani, who works as a dinner lady, added: "On Halloween, when David went out, everyone thought it was the best costume they'd seen all night, which made me quite chuffed. The only other thing I've done like this was to make a Zorro outfit for my 12-year-old daughter Sarah."
