THE number of places where young people can get free condoms is to at least double in the coming months.
Health chiefs have made cash available to give more access to free contraception in Blackburn and Darwen.
It is hoped the number of venues will triple to tackle the explosion in sexual transmitted diseases among the under 25s.
A spokeswoman for Blackburn with Darwen NHS Primary Care Trust, one of the authorities providing cash for the condoms, said: "It offers a local response to national evidence which suggests that better use of contraception, particularly condoms, has a positive impact on the sexual health of young people and helps to reduce the number of teenage conceptions."
At the moment free condoms can be obtained in Blackburn from Montague Health Centre; Larkhill Health Centre; Brook, Darwen Street; Royal Blackburn Hospital and in Darwen at Darwen Health Centre.
