Two men suffered serious injuries after they were assaulted at a house in Radcliffe.

Police were called to Chelsea Avenue, Radcliffe, yesterday following reports of a disturbance.

Officers discovered between three and five men had forced their way into the house and demanded cash.

The two victims, aged 23 and 38, were assaulted by the men, who were armed with a machete, hammer and iron bar.

The 23-year-old victim was struck in the face and leg. He was taken to hospital and received numerous stitches to a wound on his face.

The 38-year-old victim was hit over his body. He was taken to hospital for treatment to two suspected broken arms and other injuries.

The men have been described as black, about 25 years old, between 5ft 10in and 6ft tall and dressed in dark clothing.

Nothing was stolen in the incident.

Detective Inspector Sarah Jackson, from Bury CID, said: "These men have gone to the house with the clear intention of stealing goods and causing serious injury.

"In order to do so they have seriously assaulted the two unarmed men who were in their own home.

"These thugs have demonstrated they are clearly dangerous and don't care who they hurt.

"Someone knows who is responsible and I would urge anyone with any information to call police before they injure someone else."

Anyone with any information is asked to call Bury CID on 0161 856 4647, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
