Horrendous journeys on the motorway following heavy rain and gusty winds
9:39am Wednesday 17th October 2012 in News
Chaos on the roads this morning brough parts of Greater Manchester to a standstill.
There were crashes on the M60, M66, M62 and M56 and lane closures were put in place. Most have since been cleared.
Two lanes on the M60 clockwise between J17, Prestwich and J18, Simister Island remained closed for longer and speed limits were down to 40mph.
Heavy rain and winds have been blamed.

No way are drivers better in Greece. I was in Rhodes earlier this year and hit by a double decker bus whilst walking on a Sunday afternoon in the old town, I was lucky I wasn't killed. In the evenings drivers were swerving all over the road drunk! In one bar I asked about the size of a beer and said I didn't want to drive over the legal limit, I had the reply that it didn't matter there. On my journey from Rodos to our hotel two motorbikes just missed a family with a young child on a crossing and the car that was behind that almost clipped the child, I was behind that lot whilst I was in a hire car. Police advised that most drivers don't stop after an accident, it was also very difficult to report the accident to Police as they need a med report that takes two weeks, that has to be with Police before they log the accident, bad if you are there a week. Police in Rhodes told me that they have lots of accidents, many very bad. Amount of road kill including dogs and other animals illustrates that. So no way are Greek drivers better than Brits it is the other way around! BRITS DO NOT GO DRIVING AT PEOPLE TO RUN THEM OVER ON CROSSINGS!

I cause tailbacks just by driving at the speed limit, figure that one out.

I experienced horrendous wind problems this morning too. I don't think it caused any traffic problems but it might have done.

BTW Bolton Born n Bred I can't help wondering how a double decker bus found its way to Rhodes. Cliff Richard wasn't driving it was he?

....NONE. We saw no accidents because everyone drove accordingly, no racing about like plonkers, each and every driver showing respect to others. Sick and tired of the weather being blamed for the indescretions and and fool hardy driving of the minority!!
