Boarded-up Nelson homes get a facelift

BOARDED-UP houses in the Southfield area of Nelson have become the first to be given a facelift under a new scheme.

The properties, in Pine Street, have had their wooden boards covered with cleverly-designed plastic boards, featuring attractive- looking window scenes.

It was the idea of local clergyman, the Rev James Booth, and Chris Simpson, from Phoenix Family Support.

Mr Booth said: “Southfield residents told us that these boarded-up properties were the thing that bothered them the most about their area.

“We realised that, for a relatively low cost, cleverly- designed panels could be clipped over the boards to instantly transform the look of the properties.”

Coun Sheila Wicks, one of Pendle’s councillors representing Southfield, said: “I’ve received lots of positive feedback about the scheme.

“It’s helping to make people feel better about their area.

“The plan is to continue with the scheme on other streets in Southfield.”

WOW. Its all happening in Nelson..why don't they move real homeless people into them..?

and they are still empty boarded up houses so why not fill them, could it be because housing benefit has been reduced, bonds and deposits to high so the homeless cannot afford to move in as you need about 1,000 pound with fees

Why are the Rev James Booth, and Chris Simpson, from Phoenix Family Support not demanding to know why houses are going empty when people are homeless instead of camouflaging "the problem". .

THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE NEXT DOOR TO THESE BOARDED UP HOUSES WANT THEM LEAVING EMPTY THEN NO JUNKIES/THIEVES AND UNEMPLOYED WHO PLAY LOUD MUSIC ALL NIGHT THEN SLEEP DUERING THE DAY!! THE COUNCIL NEED TO ACT AND STAMP OUT SKANK LANDLORDS AND SKANK TENANTS BEFORE LETTING THESE HOUSES,

So this is why they want, the sick, elderly, disabled and anyone whom earns over a measly £71 a week, to pay between £3-£4 a week Council Tax and to stop all benefits for the under 25s whom have to go back home to mummy and daddy.but that's doesnt matter so long as these houses have been cleverly-designed with plastic boards, featuring attractive- looking window scenes, because that is what these Councils and this Government are very good at, is covering up the real issue and just chucking, loads of money at any stupid idea, some nitwit comes up with. .,

Hear hear, ive had empty houses next to me occupied by drug takers, drunken layabouts and the scum of the earth, Music all night, shouting and screaming all day, rubbish everywhere, car scratched, dogs left in the house for hours on end barking all night.

Takes months to get anyone to do anything, and then they move on to make some other poor persons life a living Hell!!!

Chances of selling my house and getting out of the sh*t hole that is Pendle are about nil, unless i sell to another dodgy landlord and so the circle continues.
