Ramsbottom shops and homes hit in window smash spree

A VANDAL has caused thousands of pounds in damage to shops and homes during a wrecking spree in Ramsbottom.

Around 12 shops and houses had their windows damaged in the incident, which happened in Bridge Street and Bolton Street, in the early hours today.

Some properties had windows that had been completely smashed, although the majority had just been shattered.

Among those hit was the Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary charity shop in Bridge Street, which had one large pane of glass shattered.

Manager Diane Riley said: “We came in this morning to see the damage, we couldn’t believe it.

“The police forensics team have been here this morning and taken samples.

“It is incredibly disappointing as we are a charity, and we run this on a voluntary basis and all the money goes towards the sanctuary, it basically means that everything we did in the shop for a couple of days last week was all pointless as the money will now go on this.”

Among the other shops damaged were Hushmoon, Isherwoods, the Room 54 Cafe and W&D Scholes, which had three large window panes shattered.

A man has been arrested by police in connection with the damage.

If the numpty arrested is convicted of this, then make him pay for ALL the damage caused and i don't mean at a pound a week either. Aswell as paying for the damage, he should be made to go into each shop and apologise face to face to all the shop owners.

What's the betting he just gets a slap on the wrist though.

There is no police at the station in Ramsbottom, First it was the terrible assalt on the chef from Ramsons and now this, maybe it is time to get more bobbies on the beat in Ramsbottom. I have moved to NZ 3 months ago from Ramsbottom just a shame my family have to see all this back there!!

I was brought up in Ramsbottom and not all people are bad ...in fact theres some very nice people but it seems such a shame for the nice people that live there that they are all tarred with the same brush.....it wouldnt suprise me if it wasnt someone from out of the area who did this anyway......

Blondeburybird......
.. " There is no police at the station in Ramsbottom "....clearly NZ is the best place for you.
I can only but assume that a literacy test does not form part of the NZ immigrant's entrance qualification?

What a sanctimonious and unnecessary post from Geoff.P regarding Blondburybird's comment. How does Geoff.P's comments contribute to this thread ? ? ?

P.S. Geoff.P I'm sure with your higher level of literacy and education than us mere mortals you understand the word sanctimonious but if not feel free to GOOGLE it ! ! ! !

For any literacy errors in this post I apologise to Geoff.P most profusely.

I/we have visited Ramsbottom on numerous occasions and have always found the welcome from both residents and shop owners/workers most welcoming, genuine and enthusiastic.

Hopefully this is an isolated incident by a troubled individual that should not reflect too badly on a fine town.

lordy65,
"a troubled individual".

Well that's one way of describing him, most would say far worse.

Community service/un-paid work around the streets of Rammy for this scally i say.
