Traffic to return to Chorley's Market Street

Market Street in Chorley
Plans for the re-opening of Market Street to traffic have been announced.
Earlier this year Chorley Council announced that it would reopen Market Street on a trial basis and the new proposed layout can be revealed for the first time.
The changes would create 30 new parking spaces along Market Street, allow traffic to travel one-way, improve the landscaping with additional crossing points.
The plans will see traffic being able to travel north to south, 30-minute free parking and new planters to act as traffic calming measures.
The plans also include a new layout of parking spaces along St George’s Street in a herringbone style to create extra spaces.
Councillor Alistair Bradley, leader of Chorley Council, said: “We’ve listened to businesses in the town and we’ve decided to trial the re-opening of Market Street to see if it can help boost trade.
“The way we see this is that we’re re-opening Market Street to allow people to park closer to the shops.
“It’ll be more of a car park that people can drive through rather than a through route with motorists driving at speed.”
