Blackburn pensioner's car stolen from hospital
7:00pm Wednesday 26th September 2012 in News
A PENSIONER who had been visiting her husband in hospital every day for 16 weeks came out one night to find her car had been stolen.
Blackburn magistrates heard the two men responsible had taken it to Bolton so one of them could visit his mum.
And the chairman of the magistrates said the act had been extremely selfish. He said: “The distress and anxiety you caused to this lady must have been horrendous,” he said.
“She has been going to hospital for 16 weeks visiting her husband and you two come along and take her transport. What an appalling act.”
Steven Johnstone, 22, and Michael John Williams, 37, both of Cherry Tree Lodge, Islington, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking.
Williams also pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, without insurance and other than in accordance with a licence. They were both remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said the car was reported stolen and police saw it at 11.20 pm being driven along Bolton Road, Darwen. Williams was driving and he gave a breathalyser reading of 60 against the legal limit of 35.
Angela Rossi, for Williams, said her client had written a letter of apology to the owner of the car Liz Parker, for Johnstone, said her client accepted he was wrong and took full responsibility for his actions.

Words of apology mean nothing from scum like these, the given residence say's it all they must have been given numerous chance's in the past to be now living at that residence.
Another example of soft justice failing to work. Bring back hard labour, bread and water twice a day with a daily flogging to remind them to stay on the straight and narrow once released.
I of course live in cloud cuckoo land.

no sign of a parking attendant then... or do they just collect the cash?

Think long term visitors can have permits issued too because of how expensive it is. There's also CCTV & parking attendants all day (not 24hr) & its fairly well lit. I suspect these are reasons why we've never heard of car thefts from there before...the care can be questionable at times but the parking is spot on lol.

Having said all that, the article makes no mention of the car having been taken from the hospital car park or where it was actually taken from.
It could possibly have been in the disabled bays where there's no barrier but if that were the case, the LET wouldn't have missed an opportunity to exploit that for all its worth..as it is, they only refer to the lady in question as elderly.
Glad she's got her car back though & can do the travelling she needs to with regards to her husbands health etc.
