A FAMILY has been left devastated after a kitten that was given as a 50th birthday present was kicked to death.
Bev Kemp and her husband Anthony were distraught to find little Pebbles, a 13-week-old, had suffered a ruptured stomach which vets said had been caused by being kicked.
The fluffy black and white kitten, which was given to Bev only eight weeks previously as a present from her sister, was put down on Thursday morning after vets told the family that nothing could be done to save her.
Bev, from Cleaver Street, Burnley, said that the kitten, was attacked after sneaking out of her house overnight.
Her son, David, 19, had found the kitten the next morning seriously injured cowering behind the gate.
Bev, a volunteer at substance misuse service, Inspire Burnley, said: “When he went to pick up Pebbles she was very cold and wet so he brought her inside. He put her on the settee and her legs dangled over it and she began to cry and was gasping for breath.
"We first thought that she might have been run over but there wasn’t a single mark on her. We took her to the vets who said that her stomach had split and her intestines had come into her stomach.
“Her back was also done in so she must have had to crawl home from wherever she had gone.
“They said that there was nothing that they could do for her and that would have to be put down.
“Pebbles was a very cute kitten, she would sit perched on my husband’s shoulders like a parrot and then lick his face, grooming him.
“To make the whole thing even worse my sister Michelle’s cat, Tinkerbell, who was Pebbles’ mum, was killed three weeks earlier by being run over by a car. Michelle had given me Pebbles eight weeks ago as a 50th birthday present.
“I really don’t know what sort of person would do this to a poor defenceless little kitten, it’s disgusting.
“I have told the police and I hope they are able to find whoever is responsible.”

It's not possible to even understand this thought process, A 13 week old kitten is a small, defenceless creature. Whoever did this is just sick in the head.

I'm no cat lover and I wish we didn't have so many of them about but this is just wrong. It's not possible to even understand this thought process, A 13 week old kitten is a small, defenceless creature. Whoever did this is just sick in the head.
