Pendle Council aims to raise £150,000 for new cycle track

PENDLE Council is seeking to get together £150,000 to match a funding bid for a new cycle track in the borough.

The £300,000 scheme at Swinden playing fields, in Nelson, will hopefully be half-funded by Inspired Facilities, but the council must provide matched funding. The project, which would see a 1.2km cycle track created around the football and cricket pitches, and pavilion refurbished, was unveiled last month.

Three area committees representing different areas of Pendle are being asked to contribute £5,000 each, while money from the sale of land at Edge End School will also be put towards it.

Tricia Wilson, project co-ordinator at Pendle Council, said: “The aim is for Swinden to become a hub for cycling and it will provide a platform for people to gain skills and confidence to go further afield on their bikes.”

The bid for Inspired Facilities funding will need to be submitted by next week.

More pandering to the needs of the leg shavers. Still if it keeps them off the roads where they don't belong, I'm all for it.

Stop being such a dope. It's a cycle track for children, not a new velodrome.

Doesn't say its for kids!!!Question 4 U, why do cyclists shave their legs?? I've asked that crispy pork sausage nutter and he won't tell me, or he doesn't know. Please take into account that I have asked around and apparently mountain bikers don't do it, unless they are girlies of course. So why do road cyclists shave their legs, Is there a definitive answer?
Do you shave yours?

road cyclist shave their legs mainly for if they crash losing lots of skin on tarmac. it's supposed to be more hygenic and less chance of infection.
though some i know do it cos they like it !
mountain bikers are a newer breed with their own 'rules'.

If you suffer fools like that one, you risk becoming one yourself. It's like opening the door to the Jehovah's Witness of stupidity, entertaining that moron.

Roadies shave their legs for a number of reasons: hygiene with crashes; to make it easier to apply embrocation; to make it easier to massage; because everyone else does it and it feels/looks good, which in turn DOES make you go faster because psychologically it's another part of the preparation, just like having a clean bike.
And yeah, I used to shave my legs when I was racing, but I don't now. But I only did it because everyone else did and it felt good, not for hygiene or massage.

Maybe a small road tax introduced to cyclists would quieten the critics and raise funds to improve the roads. Cyclists (and i am one) often claim to have as much right to road space as 'petroleum fuled vehicles' so maybe we should have to pay a small road tax??
