Worston woman's new business idea takes the biscuit

Sarah Lawrenson Sarah Lawrenson

A FORMER chemical researcher for drug companies nationwide is about to launch her new business making cookies.

Sarah Lawrenson, 45, from Worston near Clitheroe, started baking with her children for Mother’s Day, but quickly found there was a potential market, after being asked to provide bespoke cookies for events.

Sarah set up the Queen of Hearts Cookie Company and now bakes cookies for everything from wedding favours, anniversaries, children’s parties to corporate gifts and greetings cards. All the cookies are handmade using local produce and hand decorated. The cookies can be personalised with unique designs and shapes, photographs, personalised messages and themes.

Sarah said: “I’ve always enjoyed cooking with the children and they’ve given me lots of inspiration and ideas. The cookies just seem to have taken off. I’m looking forward to my new venture.”

Sarah is already looking at making gluten-free and organic cookies, along with introducing new flavours such as spice, chocolate and rose infused cookies.

How can all the produce be local?

Where is the wheat grown? Where is the sugar from? What about the cocoa?

I've just seen some pics on her facebook page (the website isn't working) and they are really stunning biscuits. Real works of art.
