Accrington woman assaulted her mum while drunk

A 23-YEAR-OLD woman turned up at her mother’s home in a drunken state and demanded that she looked after her baby.
Blackburn magistrates heard that when she was ordered to leave Amy Louise Newton head butted a wall and then punched her mum three times.
And the court was told Newton was already subject to a restraining order which prevented her from attending at her mum’s home or her place of work.
Newton, of Edleston Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to assaulting Susan Newton, damaging a wall belonging to her, breach of a restraining order and being drunk in charge of a child.
She was made subject to community supervision for 12 months with a six months alcohol treatment requirement. She was also made subject to a restraining order for a further 12 months.
Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Newton gave birth in May but her mum had not seen her or the child since June before she turned up on August 3.
“Mrs Newton was at home watching television when her daughter walked in and demanded she look after the child,” said Miss Allan. “She was clearly drunk and was told to leave.”
Newton head butted the wall, causing a dint, and Mrs Newton told one of her other children to call the police.
“She called her mum names and then punched her three times with her fist,” said Miss Allan.
Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client accepted it had been a most unpleasant incident.
“She went round when she was drunk and that was a recipe for disaster,” said Mr Taylor. “She realises the main problem she has is drink, which is at the root of all her problems.”
