Two for trial on possession of explosives

TWO men have appeared in court charged with explosive offences.
Robert Cottage, 49, of Talbot Street, Colne, and David Bolus Jackson, 62, of Trent Road, Nelson, appeared before Preston Crown Court together yesterday charged with possession of an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose.
The charges were brought under the Explosives Substances Act 1883 after forensic experts searched their homes and allegedly discovered chemical components which could be used to make explosives.
The exact nature of the chemicals has not been revealed.
Cottage stood for the BNP in the May elections in the Vivary Bridge ward of Colne.
He was arrested at his home last month, while retired dentist Jackson was arrested in the Lancaster area two days later.
No application for bail was made and no pleas were entered.
The Recorder of Preston, Judge Anthony Russell, remanded Cottage and Jackson in custody and sent the case to Manchester Crown Court for trial on February 12 next year.
