Young actors from Burnley appear at Edinburgh Fringe

TALENTED young actors from Burnley have been spreading the word about their debut performance at the Edinburgh Fringe on the Royal Mile.

Burnley Youth Theatre members are partway through their inaugural appearance at the cultural mecca.

And like all of the competing acts at Edinburgh, a key requirement of their job is to entice audiences through the door of the Bongo Club to catch their thought-provoking play, Three Words.

Under the umbrella of Byteback Theatre, the East Lancashire outfit secured a three-night slot at the famous city venue, where they sharing a stage with the likes of Never Mind The Buzzocks presenter Simon Amstell and an array of weird and wonderful troupes.

In an online post, a Byteback spokesman said: “Our first piece at the Edinburgh Fringe went brilliantly. Thanks again to the amazing crew at the Bongo Club and a fantastic audience.”

Older hands have also been eager to give the Burnley performers encouragement, with a number of experienced theatre companies offering support and advice.

Three Words is an intriguing drama, based on the idea that each of us has 70,000 thoughts per day. The first live performance, before the Fringe run, took place at the youth theatre last month.

Ten performers from a range of different backgrounds are taking part in the production, which will be staged for the third and final time tonight.

The young actors have also been given the chance to soak up the atmosphere at a number of other fringe plays and shows.

Other acts listed at the Bongo Club include Alternative Sex Education, a ‘queer feminist burlesque collective’ and cabaret Triskaidekaphilia, a ‘schlock horror; show hosted by ‘kitsch bitch’ Vendetta Vain.
