IRRESPONSIBLE dog owners were fined £525 in June during a council crackdown on fouling.
Blackburn with Darwen Council officers handed out seven £75 fines to people walking their pets on Pleasington and Witton Park playing fields, in Blackburn.
Excuses included having no poop bags, to not seeing the dog foul.
Coun Faryad Hussain, executive member for environmental improvement, said: “Not cleaning up after your dog is disgusting and filthy. The majority of dog owners are responsible and pick up their pet’s mess, but there is a minority who are being selfish.
"My message to them is that they are letting down their neighbours, children, and visitors to the borough.
“We will fine people we catch who let their pets foul the streets. But we can’t be everywhere, so we need residents to help us tackle this issue.”
