MONEY, marriage certificates and financial documents were stolen in a raid at a mosque.

Burglars stole a large safe con-taining the money and docum-ents, from Sajedeen mosque, in Plane Tree Road, Blackburn, over the weekend.

Now police are appealing for anyone with information to con-tact them.

The mosque was burgled bet-ween 11.45pm on Saturday and 3.15am on Sunday. Police said thieves broke into the mosque from the back and made their way to the office.

Officers said the burglars then forced the office door, searched the room and found the safe.

The thieves then walked out through the front of the mosque with the safe.

Inspector Abid Khan, of Black-burn police, said: “I would urge anyone who has seen anything at all suspicious, or has any other information they think could help to contact police immediately.

“The safe did contain some money, but mainly it was being used to store important docum-ents, such as receipt books, marr- iage certificates, and other fin-ancial paperwork.

“These documents won’t be worth anything to the people that have taken them.

“So I would urge people to be vigilant and if anyone finds anything similar that has been discarded in the area, then I would ask they keep hold of it and contact police.”
