THE sister of tragic Kelly Davies has told how friends have been rallying round to help support her bereaved daughters.
Ms Davies was found stabbed to death at her flat in Queen Street, Farnworth, earlier this month.
Her children have, for the last three years, been cared for by Ms Davies’ sister, Toni Morton.
Ms Davies has two daughters, aged five and 13 — and the fiveyear- old used to make regular visits to see her mum at weekends.
“We did love each other, we would see each other every week and she loved going to her mum’s,” Mrs Morton said.
She said the family’s priority now is caring for the girls and Mrs Morton’s 10-year-old son.
“Her five-year-old understands that she won’t see mummy as she is in heaven but she doesn’t really understand.
My son is really emotional and her 13-year-old is in shock,” she said.
“We just want to make everything as normal as possible for them.”
Mrs Morton’s friends have been determined to help, and Claremont Ladies Rounders Team, which she plays for, is organising a special rounders tournament at Bolton Cricket Club on June 24 to raise money for Ms Davies’ funeral and for her children.
“I was so shocked — I was in tears that they would do that for me,” said Mrs Morton, who plans to play in the tournament herself.
The event, which is open to the public, starts at 11am.
One of the organisers is Amber Perkin, who was at Sharples High School with Ms Davies.
“This was something we wanted to do, not just as a rounders team but as friends,”
she said.
“Kelly was always game for a laugh. She was funny. She was always the class joker.”
Ms Davies has had a troubled time in recent years but lately had begun to improve her life and Mrs Perkin said her sister would sometimes bring her along to rounders matches.
The rounders team plan to hold more fund raising events in future and are currently appealing for donations and prizes for their tournament raffle.
