Weather warning for East Lancashire as Atlantic storm approaches Britain

A WEATHER warning has been issued across East Lancashire as experts predict the region will be battered by heavy rain.

The Met Office has forecast that an unseasonable Atlantic storm will bring persistent heavy rain and strong winds, starting today, continuing until Sunday. Localised flooding is expected.

Frank Saunders, chief forecaster at the Met Office, said: “The unsettled theme we have seen so far this month is set to continue with more wet and windy weather to come, especially through tonight and tomorrow, although we are not expecting it to be as severe as the weather last weekend.”

Simon Sheldon-Wilson, director of traffic management at the Highways Agency, urged drivers to plan ahead for journeys and to allow extra time if conditions are poor.

The Environment Agency has mobilised teams to check on flood defences, clear any river blockages, and closely monitor river levels.
