TWO match programmes from the last time Blackburn Rovers won the FA Cup in 1928 are set to be sold at auction.

The rare copies are expected to fetch around £600 at Sotherby’s in London next week.

Rovers won the match 3-1 against Huddersfield Town at Wembley Stadium.

Experts said if the programmes were in finer condition they would be worth even more.

The more valuable programme, with an estimated value of £650, has “a fairly light vertical fold” and “rusty staples have been removed” otherwise it is “overall good.”

The less expensive programme, expected to fetch £550 has “light folding” and is “a little grubby” but overall it is in “reasonable condition.”

The condition of football programmes is very important to serious collectors.

Creases, folds, rusty or missing staples, team changes in ink, sticky tape repairs, food or drink stains and missing bits of paper will devalue most programmes and can sometimes slash hundreds of pounds off the value of rarer programmes.

The 1928 FA Cup final piece of memorabilia is a special programme for Rovers’ fans, as it is a memento of Blackburn’s sixth FA Cup final triumph and it was also the last time Rovers won the cup.

Blackburn, managed by Bob Crompton, beat Huddersfield thanks to goals from Jack Roscamp (two) and Tommy McLean.
