THE QUEEN and the Duke of Edinburgh will be shown around the Weavers Triangle on their visit to Burnley - by Prince Charles.

The announcement that the Prince will be there on the big day came from Buckingham Palace yesterday.

Clarence House said the tour of the work done by the Prince’s Trust was a chance for the Prince of Wales to accompany them on a visit to a town that is “very close to his heart”.

Their visit to East Lancashire on May 16 will see them go to Accrington and Burnley as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

In Burnley, they will visit Slater’s Terrace in the Weavers Triangle, which is where they will be shown around by Prince Charles, who has visited the town four times in the past six years.

Then the Queen and Prince Philip will have lunch at Turf Moor, hosted by outgoing chairman Barry Kilby in the Jimmy McIlroy Lounge.

While in the town they will officially open UCLan's Junior University for Lancashire, at UCLan’s Burnley Campus, in Princess Way.

In Accrington they will visit the Market Hall, in Peel Street and the town hall, in Blackburn Road.

Prince Charles’ charities, including the Prince’s Trust, have done extensive work in Burnley and East Lancashire in general.

On his visit in February 2010 he spoke of his affection for the Weavers Triangle development plans and its importance in the regeneration of the town.
