The life and times of Luddites in West Yorkshire will feature in a new theatrical folk production.

Among Those Dark Satanic Mills will be performed by The Hammer & Shears Company – a group of more than 20 local folk enthusiasts.

Many of them regularly meet at The Drovers Folk Club held in the old Court Room at the Black Bull, Birstall. This was the room used as a Magistrates Court at the time of the Luddite uprising.

The production, which will mark the 200th Anniversary of the Luddite uprising in West Yorkshire, is on at Aldersgate Methodist Church in Common Road, Low Moor, Bradford, on Saturday, April 28. Call (01274) 673274 to book.

It will be performed again on Sunday, May 13, at Roberttown Community Centre in Church Road, Liversedge – call (01924) 485573 to book – and at Cleckheaton Folk Festival on Saturday, July 7, call 01274 879761.
