Worker rescued as mill caves in

FIREFIGHTERS and paramedics rescued a man who suffered two broken legs when the inside of a converted mill in Bury collapsed.
The 57-year-old, who was working in an office at the Windacre Mill in Mather Road, had plunged 8ft when the building caved in.
Fire crews from Bury and a specialist unit from Ashton Fire Station in Tameside were called to the premises at 11.10am on Monday.
The man, who has not been named, had been able to alert the emergency services himself via mobile phone. Officers used a ladder, hooli tool and breaking-in gear to rescue the man from the collapsed building.
He was placed on a spinal board before being taken to hospital by ambulance.
Watch Commander Steve Wilcock, of Bury Fire Station, said: “The man was able to alert the emergency services as he had his mobile phone.
“If people are working alone they should have a fully charged mobile phone and let people know where they are.”
Emergency services were at the scene for an hour.
