Fuel spill closes road between Blackburn and Preston

A MAJOR road between Blackburn and Preston was closed this morning following an accident.

The A677 Preston New Road shut following an accident and an oil spillage at 4.50am from the A59 Whalley Road to Intack Lane by BAE Systems and Samlesbury Hall.

Drivers headed towards Blackburn were diverted along the A59 then through Mellor to get back on to Preston New Road.

The road was reopened shortly before 8am.

Police said VW Golf lost control on a bend and hit a wall and then a HGV. Officers said there were no serious injuries as a result of the smash.
