DARWEN dad Ted Mountain will live in a wheelie bin for two nights to raise cash for Children In Need.

The unemployed former canopy fitter, who has three children, Ben, 22, Coby, 20, and Dillon, 15, will be based at the Millstone pub, in the town centre, and will only be allowed out for five minutes every hour for toilet breaks.

Mr Mountain, 48, said he wanted to take on the challenge as it was something a bit different.

Mr Mountain, who lives with his wife, Joanne, in Olive Lane, will get in the bin at 5pm on Friday and be taken around the pubs for people to throw donations into his bin.

He said: “You hear about people living in baths, but never bins.

"My wife just laughs at me. She thinks I’m mad.”

On Saturday, he will attend the Christmas lights switch-on and will stay in the bin until 5pm on Sunday.

He said: “I don’t think I’ll get much sleep. I’ve got a sleeping bag to sleep in and I’ve got a bit of carpet to put in the bottom.

"I’m looking forward to it now. I’m quite excited.”

Mr Mountain said he is using his own bin but he’s cleaned it up.

Sponsor forms are available in pubs around Darwen.

A table will be put up outside the Millstone during the day on Friday for children to draw Pudsey Bears with their names on, to be put on the side of the bin.

These will cost £1, with the money going to the charity.
