HUNDREDS of people in Greater Manchester are expected to dump their cars on Friday and as part of "In Town Without My Car" day. The day is celebrated throughout the world each year to get people to think about healthier and more environmentally-friendly ways of getting around and use alternative forms of transport.
Chairman of the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority, Cllr Roger Jones said: "The event is a great opportunity for people who usually drive to try an alternative. We want people to stop and think twice about their journeys and whether there might be alternatives to using the car that could help reduce pollution and congestion."
In the UK last year 61 towns and cities were involved and this year, which has the theme of climate change, activities are taking place in Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Salford, Stockport and Wigan.
