At the end of this they might not want to see a football pitch again!

A group of friends from Blackburn have set a new world record for the longest game of football ever after playing for 75 hours.

They passed the magic 60 hour mark at midnight last night and reached the 75 hour mark at 3pm today.

Speaking from the base at Toryglen Regional Football Centre in Glasgow, organisers said despite some injuries and fatigue the lads were still going strong.

And late this evening some of those struggling from earlier injuries had managed to get themselves back on to the football pitch!

The team travelled to Scotland on the morning of Saturday July 16 and have been playing football ever since to raise money for the British Red Cross.

A squad of 18 players for each side was permitted and the event is being marshalled by four referees who are all taking turns to take charge.

A previous record of 60 hours was set at Loughborough University and took place between the 'Pink Panthers' and the 'Black Eagles'.

The score then was 756 to 746.

Another record was set in Coventry in June when a group of footballers played continuously for 72 hours.

The new world record holders are 'Mankind United' and 'Heilen World'.

The players are hoping to raise over £20,000 for charity.
