Smoke in Darwen street blamed on underground cables

FIRE crews were called to the Darwen Discount Carpet Centre after smoke was seen coming from the building at around 3pm yesterday.
Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras and discovered that the smoke was coming from some underground electricity cables in the building in Taylor Street.

They cordoned off the area and engineers from the North West Electricity company were drafted in to locate the problem.
No one was injured.
