TV star bowled over by appeal effort

CRICKETERS were putting back to ball throughout the night to complete a 24-hour television bat-a-thon.

Sportsmen at Blackrod Cricket Club were joined by TV presenter Paul Crone to raise money for his "Up The Amazon" appeal.

The appeal has been launched by news programme Granada Reports to raise funds for a project which delivers important medical supplies to people in the Amazon rainforest.

Players at Blackrod Cricket Club began their marathon innings at 9pm on Sunday in a bid to raise £700 for the appeal Event organiser Chris Sanderson said: "Everybody who took part really enjoyed working towards such a good cause. We had to make up a bit of extra time because we had to break for bad weather. After that we enjoyed a well deserved drink."
