DEMONSTRATORS staged a protest around Nelson town centre on Saturday against the closure of ‘vital’ services in the town.
Led by the area’s Labour party, residents who felt strongly about the closures of the welfare office in Carr Road and social services cuts took to the streets with placards to express their concerns.
The group marched from the welfare office to the Pendle MP constituency office in Cross Street before picketing outside.
Coun Mohammed Iqbal, leader of Labour party, said: “It was extremely successful and we hope to continue the fight to save the centre.”
Coun Iqbal revealed they will also be handing a 3,000 named petition against the closures to Lancashire County Council.
The event coincided with the national March For An Alternative protest in London, where public sector workers, including thousands from Lancashire, rallied against Government cuts.
