A FINAL rallying call has gone out for women to join one of Bury Hospice’s largest fundraising events of the year — the Midnight Walk.
More than 100 women have already signed up for Saturday’s challenge, but there are places left for almost 400 people.
The annual event will see the women set off from The Village Hotel, in Bury, at midnight and walk 10 miles.
The route passes the current hospice in Dumers Lane, Radcliffe, and the site of the new hospice in Rochdale Old Road, Bury.
Sarah Brealey, hospice event fundraiser, said: “If you are already taking part, encourage your mum, sister, aunty, granny or friends to join you on this year’s annual Midnight Walk. If you are reading this and have not signed up already, then contact our fundraising office.”
Among the women taking part is Claire Warner, the hospice’s director of fundraising. She said: “At 35, I still consider myself to be young. However, I’ve been deeply saddened and moved by the number of men and women around my own age who I’ve seen cared for by the hospice.”
This year’s event, which is being sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland, is the fifth annual Midnight Walk in Bury. Registration costs £10, which includes a medal, t-shirt, sponsor forms and refreshments.
Although only women can take part, volunteers aged 18 and over are needed to help with registration, stewarding and refreshments. To enter the walk or volunteer contact the hospice on 0161 797 1748 or email midnightwalk@buryhospice.org.uk.
