STAFF and students at a Haslingden school have thanked local businesses for providing work experience for students with special needs.

Teenagers aged 16-19 in the Further Education Department at Tor View School took part in the work experience.

Janice Crowther, work placement co-ordinator, said: "Students have gained invaluable skills through the help of local businesses.

"The students gained first-hand experience of various working environments, learning new skills and a basic understanding of health and safety issues.

"They were also able to meet new people and develop working relationships with their work mates away from school, which goes a long way towards building self esteem and developing a positive self image."

The school is now appealing to local businesses and organisations who may be interested in providing work experience placements for the new school year.
