A SMALLHOLDING set up in Cliviger by a group of restaurateurs has done so well selling its vegetables, eggs and jams that it has expanded.

Long Causeway Trading owners Alison Eason, Allan McMinn and Sharon Akerboom said there had been a growing demand for their produce since moving to their nine-acre site.

The trio for many years ran the restaurant That Cafe, in Levenshulme, Manchester, but are now preparing for a change of pace after deciding to breed rare livestock in Mereclough.

They said they were particularly keen to start keeping Hebridean sheep.

Allan said: “It was by accident that we stumbled across the land at Cliviger but we knew instantly this was perfect for our next venture.

“We are able to breed rare pigs, ducks, geese, chickens and lambs, all of which are free to roam.

“People appreciate us being able to supply them with local products.”

The three will put their produce to the test at the Pennine Lancashire Festival of Food next month.
