SOCCER mad teenager Bradley Lewarne was fed up with not being able to play football at his local park — because of all the dog mess.

But now the 13-year-old is hoping a poster he helped design will change all that.

Because Bradley, from Deane, won a Bolton News competition to come up with a catchy football-themed slogan for Bolton Council, urging dog owners to pick up after their pet.

The Ladybridge High School pupil’s winning headline was “No fouling in the box — penalty awarded”.

His slogan will now appear on posters across Bolton warning dog owners they face a £75 fine if they fail to pick up their dog’s mess.

Bradley, who won an England football shirt, tickets to a Bolton Wanderers game and a framed copy of his poster, said: “It was really good to win. The poster looks great and I was really pleased with all my prizes.”

His mum, Donna Lewarne, added: “Bradley’s always complaining that he can’t play football round here because of all the dog mess on the parks so when he saw this competition, he had loads of ideas.”

The competition was held in conjunction with Bolton Council and Bolton Wanderers.

We asked people to come up with snappy captions or headlines for the posters — with a maximum of eight words. Runners-up won a football and they included Ryan Parry, from Leyland, Samantha Whittingham, from Westhoughton, and Dorothy Syddall, from Over Hulton. Pupils at Claypool Primary School and Markland Hill Primary School also sent in dozens of good ideas and each won a football for their class.

Cllr Sufrana Bashir-Ismail, Executive Member for Cleaner, Greener, Safer, said: “Dog fouling is an area of serious concern for residents and the council receives over 500 complaints a year about the issue.

Thanks to Bradley for coming up with such as great slogan and we hope that these posters will make people think twice and take responsibility for their own dog waste.”
