AN INJECTION of funds will help look after Hyndburn’s natural habitats.

Approximately £9,600 has been set aside to improve the management of the borough’s Biological Heritage Sites, including ancient woodlands, peatland and marshes. Places that will benefit are thought to include the Jackhouse reservoirs above Oswaldtwistle and stretches of the canal which flows through Church.

The funds are expected to be used to help keep sites clear of rubbish and to support wildlife or voluntary groups who take care of theses areas and who also apply for external funding.

Coun Kath Pratt said: “Many of these sites are beautiful places, not far from town, where local people can walk and enjoy the tranquillity.”

Coun Brian Roberts added: “The council recognises the importance of caring for our natural green spaces.

“So, this year’s budget allocates £9,600 to improve the management of some of these green spaces, enhancing their natural value and making opportunities available for local people to enjoy and get involved in interesting activities.”
