GOOD neighbour Mike Dolan has helped raise more than £2,300 for a play centre for disabled children in Bury.
He organised a successful charity night in aid of the good cause that took place last Saturday at the Footballers Inn in Higher Summerseat.
The money will go towards his next door neighbour, Emma Birkett, who has reached her initial target of £180,000 to set up the centre. She has also secured a further £170,000 in grants from Bury, Bolton, Oldham and Rochdale councils.
Emma, of Swanage Close, Bury, is now looking for a building in the town where she can open the centre, which will be called Boomerang. Her crusade has been inspired by her disabled daughter, Ellie. Last weekend’s fundraiser embraced entertainment from three professional singers, a raffle and auctions. Mr Dolan would like to thank sponsors, together with Ron Wood, Brian Sellers and Neville Neville for their auction donations.
Mr Dolan said: “I’m staggered we raised around £2,300. I thought we’d only make £500.”
