Big changes for the ‘bad attitude’ teen

TEENAGER Chanelle Wilson is looking forward to a bright future after changing her ways.

The 15-year-old had a “bad attitude” when she started attending Radcliffe Riverside High School and her education suffered.

But she has now changed, working hard in the classroom, which looks set to be rewarded with a string of top grades at GCSE.

The transformation came when Chanelle got involved with Aimhigher, a scheme that works with young people to boost their confidence and help them move into higher education.

To mark her improvement, she was chosen as the winner of the Aimhigher Learner award.

It recognises students who have made the most of the opportunities provided by the scheme.

Her mum, Candice Wilson, said: “In the first couple of years she had a bad attitude and didn’t want to do anything.

“She has improved a lot since then though and is doing really well in school.

“I am very proud of Chanelle. I am over the moon that she has won the award.”

Chanelle, of Larch Avenue, Radcliffe, was nominated for the prize by Diana Golding, the school’s student support manager. She said: “Chanelle is an inspirational young lady in so many different ways to so many different people.

“She now realises the potential she has and has taken steps to unlock this potential and succeed.”

She collected her prize at a special awards evening held last Wednesday at the University of Salford’s Maxwell Hall.
