FILMING: Georgia May Foote

A BURY teenager has left behind her job in a chip shop to walk the cobbles of Coronation Street.

For it was announced last week that Georgia May Foote, aged 19, has joined the popular soap.

She will play “fiesty and outspoken” Kat Armstrong, who is the sister of Izzy and a love interest for Chesney.

Georgia, who grew up in Walmersley, has already started filming in Weatherfield and her first scenes will be broadcast during the summer.

It is a long way from her job serving fish and chips at The Sundial, in Walmersley Road, where Georgia worked for four years.

She left the shop three weeks ago to start work on Coronation Street.

Sue Whaley, who runs The Sundial with her husband, said: “We are very pleased that she has got this part. She is a lovely girl and very pretty.

“We were lenient with her when she needed to go to auditions instead of working. She has worked very hard and really deserves this. We’re very proud of her.”

Georgia is a former pupil of Elton High School, which she left in June, 2007.

Headteacher Mr Neil Scruton said: “I am absolutely delighted that Georgia’s creative talent has been recognised. She was a super student at school and will be a real asset to the media. She is a fantastic girl.”

Georgia has been acting for several years and joined the Bury-based Carol Godby Theatre Workshop in 2000.

She is best known for the four years she spent playing Alison Simmons in school drama series Grange Hill.

She has also appeared in Casualty, Emmerdale, Heartbeat, Doctors and Life On Mars.

And it will not be the first time she has visited the Coronation Street set, as she appeared in January as Jess Burrows, whose parents were considering buying Gail Platt’s house.

As well as acting, Georgia became known across Bury in 2006 when she was crowned Bury Hospice’s Red Rose Princess.
