HIGH visibility police operations around England’s three World Cup group games have been hailed a success.

Domestic violence patrols and a significant presence across Lancashire town centres have helped keep a lid on any trouble.

Police have reported no large scale disturbances and only a handful of arrests for being drunk and disorderly.

From midnight until 4am following Friday’s 0-0 draw with Algeria, specialist domestic violence patrols received no reports.

PC Gary Hennighan said: “There have been a lot of various agencies working together with a visible presence and strong messages – this has had an impact.”

Sunday’s second round tie with Germany kicks off at 3pm and will see a similar policing operation.

PC Hennighan added: “We have contingency plans in place all the way through to the final to prevent trouble.”
