A FAULT on a high voltage power line caused problems for dozens of householders and a radio station.

Radio Rossendale went offline, the electricity to 43 homes in the Cribden and Oakenhead area of Rawtenstall was cut, and a mobile phone network lost coverage as a local transmitter went down between 3.45pm and 11.30pm on Sunday.

Engineers repaired a damaged cable in the Meadow Bank area of Rawtenstall.

A spokesman for United Utilities claimed yobs throwing items at electricity pylons could be to blame.
