BRICK-throwing yobs smashed the windscreens of nine cars in a vandalism spree.

Police said the incidents happened in the Stanhill Lane area of Oswaldtwistle and that the cars were targeted ‘at random’.

Officers are now speaking to the owners of the cars after the attacks early on Saturday.

Maureen Whittaker, 64, of Stanhill Lane, said her 34-year-old son Matthew discovered his windscreen had been smashed on Saturday morning.

She said police believed those responsible for the spree may have been travelling by car because of the distance between the incidents.

She said: “We have been told that there were others on the same night as far away as Knuzden, Thwaites Lane and New Lane in Oswaldtwistle.

“They didn’t try and steal anything, and we don’t think it was just someone walking past.

“It’s random vandalism.

“We have been wondering why anyone would carry out these spasmodic offences.

“There’s no sign of a brick and luckily his paintwork has not been damaged.

“It’s thousands of pounds in total for all the other cars.”

Her son’s Vauxhall Bora had been parked on the side of Stanhill Lane overnight between Friday and Saturday.
