VINTAGE steam engines, cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles and tractors descended on Slaidburn at the weekend.

The Slaidburn Steam Rally took place on Saturday and Sunday at the centre of the Ribble Valley village.

There were also two fairground organs, a children's fairground and a craft fair which was held in the village hall.

Now firmly established on the steam rally calendar, this year's event took place at the Hark to Bounty pub and raised funds for Slaidburn Young Farmers’ Club.

The event first started in 1980 when local man David McNamee parked his steam roller outside the Hark to Bounty pub.

The following year, a fellow steam enthusiast brought his traction engine to Slaidburn and the event was born.

Since the rally started almost £40,000 has been raised for village causes.

The village bowling green was reinstated with proceeds from the rally and nearly £1000 was donated towards the restoration of the village cenotaph and a similar amount has been raised for the village hall.
